So very true. The financial risk involved in opening an online business is in the thousands as opposed to the hundreds of thousands for franchises. Even despite the startup costs, we were attracted to franchises initially for the social aspects. Being able to interact with people face to face as opposed to over the phone or by email was an attractive proposition for us because quite frankly, my wife and I love meeting new people. Kumons would have been perfect because we would've met hundreds of other moms. Oh well. We're pretty happy with where we're at!

I've thought about franchises before but have immediately rejected them for the amount of money you need to invest upfront. It seems like you need to do almost the same amount of work marketing the place as if you were starting something on your own, and yet have to invest a whole bunch and pay the franchise fee.

Thanks for the reminder about why not to follow through on these things.

Cheers

I really appreciate the kind comments. Unfortunately, we have all too many failed business ideas to share:)

Thanks for sharing about the failed business ventures that you and your wife went through. Unfortunately, more of us get sucked in by all the marketing hype that it is easy to do a business, make money and so on and so forth. In reality, as you correctly pointed out, it is more often the case that our first forays will invariably throw up some lessons for us to learn in their failures. Thanks for putting things REAL to your readers here!
