I actually saw Maile talk about this live at the SMX conference in New York City last fall – you can get some pretty decent data from Webmaster Tools. If you use Google Analytics, they just announced that you can integrate your WT account with your Analytics account: http://searchengineland.com/google-webmaster-tools-and-google-analytics-the-beginning-of-a-useful-integration-63910

What does she mean by using “SEO” as a job title?
I thought SEO was a type of program that is supposed to “crack” or “hack” Google search results. She seems to talking as a boss or a consultant?

An SEO consultant is someone that you hire to help you rank higher in the search engines. SEO stands for search engine optimization and is not a program, crack or hack.
