I’d like to see more of the how-to type guides for building an online store, it’s always nice to see from someone who’s done it – how to go about doing things the right way. Also, I love reading your personal stories in running a business as well. I think they’re interesting not only to entrepreneurs like ourselves, but also just to anyone else out there who might be interested in reading.

    Keep up the great work!

  2. Mirandaon 18 Mar 2010 at 7:40 am

Great contest! I think I’d like to see more on productivity and how to build an online store. And, of course, there is plenty of room in there for you to share your experiences!

How to guides with respect to building an online store
    Marketing an online store

    Thanks and good luck!

Overall, I think you’re doing a great job. This is one of the sites that I can always count on going to for good content.

I do agree with David that it would be helpful to see a few more specific how-to type details from time to time.

Overall, keep up the good work.

    Motivational articles focusing on entrepreneurship

Thanks for the opportunity. Keep up the great articles.

This is so generous of you! I have been reading your blog for quite some time and enjoy the posts.

I would like to see more:

Personal stories about obstacles we face running our business

    Thanks! Have a great day!

  7. McLaughlinon 18 Mar 2010 at 8:13 am

Your personal stories about dealing with idiots (umm, customers) is probably my favorite. There was one story about a year ago with a person ordering napkins (I think) and needed them embroidered and delivered the next day for a wedding. I don’t have a biz like you, but I have run into people like that.

  8. Xurxo Vidalon 18 Mar 2010 at 9:31 am

    Hi Steve,

The kind of posts I really enjoy here by order of importance are the following:

    * Personal stories about obstacles you face running your business
    * Motivational articles focusing on entrepreneurship
    * How to increase productivity
    * Marketing an online store

Also “How to” posts covering a variety of topics with respect to building and operating an online business is something many will find helpful. Everyone likes to learn from others who have done something similar to what they are trying to do.

  9. Christieon 18 Mar 2010 at 9:33 am

This site is awesome. I use it as a reference, reading all the good how-tos about the early trials and errors, the LLC setup, and how you’re managing it all. As a brand new LLC, I’d like to see more about how to handle a new small business. I also would love to read more about how you learn and change what you’re doing based on what works – how to know when you’re going down the wrong path. (Your early learning experiences with the store were wonderful since you did learn from them)!

  10. James NomadRipon 18 Mar 2010 at 9:34 am

I’d like to see how-to guides about online stores as well as Marketing them, but I have some interest in the other topics, also. So it’s really tough to go wrong here :-)

  11. Alexa Samuelson 18 Mar 2010 at 9:42 am

Steve, I don’t even qualify for the contest (hello from the Great White North), but I like your site so much that I’m doing what I can to help your market research.

All great ideas, but if I had to choose, online store how-to guides and stories about overcoming obstacles.

    Hope this helps!

  12. Tyler WebCPAon 18 Mar 2010 at 10:05 am

Sweet contest! I’m going to go with the personal stories about how you guys did it and and e-commerce strategies to boost sales.

    Hey Steve,

I’m most interested in seeing you talk about:

    - Personal stories about obstacles we face running our business
    - Ecommerce strategies to boost sales

I’ll be launching my own product soon online, so hearing how you’ve been there and done that (as well as your funny customer service stories) is what I like to see =)

  14. Michele | aka Raw Juice Girlon 18 Mar 2010 at 11:35 am

I love anything person and also the tips you share about running your business from home and marketing your online store.

Of course, I can’t think of a single post I’d complain about – keep up the great work, Steve!

And thank you for the contest!

  15. Suzanneon 18 Mar 2010 at 1:08 pm

I’m interested mostly in the personal accounts, so I’d have to say personal stories about obstacles we face running our business. It’s not on your list but some success stories would be good too, just to reassure people that they aren’t wasting their time in trying to run an online business.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

    Hi Steve,

Wow, it’s hard to choose. I like all of the topics. I love your blog because it combines clear, actionable information and motivation. And, it is backed up by your own personal experience and success.

But, I guess I have to choose, so I’ll say Motivational articles focusing on entrepreneurship and Marketing an online store. I guess those two are the most useful and important to me.

  21. Evanon 18 Mar 2010 at 2:25 pm

My two: personal stories and marketing an online store.

I’m in Australia so I won’t be winning but I hope the feedback is useful anyway.

I read your blog for the real life stories – stuff from gurus and ‘motivational’ stuff (which usually isn’t – just moralising rants) doesn’t grab me.

I think you’ve made a great blog, keep up the good work.

  22. Carla | Green and Chicon 18 Mar 2010 at 5:46 pm

Wow Steve! I cant really think of anything else to add! You have covered just about every topic I can think of.

Now that I think about it more, I would like for you to write a post about your business overhead. I am always curious as to how much other small, home based business spend on XYZ especially now that my 2009 taxes are complete.

  23. Dougon 18 Mar 2010 at 6:18 pm

I’m most interested in reading more motivational articles focusing on entrepreneurship as well as tips about how to increase productivity.

Love the personal anecdotes and case histories too though!

  24. Shilpa R.on 18 Mar 2010 at 7:31 pm

    Hey Steve,

Wow, it’s a tough choice to make as I truly enjoy all your blogs. In fact your email is one that I wait to receive in my inbox! Either way, via email or visiting your blog, I like to know about questions that I face while trying to start my small business. If I were to choose two topics then, I would choose: a. HOW-TO- Guides & b. Personal stories about obstacles you face. Both of these topics are so valuable, I think. The later one I think is something that I crave for, I think nothing teaches you best but experience.

In fact, I had just emailed you about one of the question that I am faced with currently: “Storage ideas and problems about the Physical Inventory”. In that email, what I am seeking from you is how do you solve this problem/ issue. I would like to know your own story vs. just some typical article thats out there that doesnot necessarily solve/talk about the problem. I think, I love and learn a lot from your OWN STORIES & of course the HOW-To’s. So, these would be my first two choices but as I wrote in the beginning that its tough to choose just two as you are an amazing writer, motivator and businessman. Keep it up! Congratulations on your success and of course, thank you for all the writing! :)

    Smile
    Shilpa R.

Great website! I knew your wife had quit her job & started a business, but I had no idea it was going so well and you guys had learned so much. Great to see that you also have a passion to share what you’ve gained! Like to see more on philosophy on keeping your kids and family first, parenthood is exhausting – I don’t know how you do it!

  26. Deeon 18 Mar 2010 at 8:40 pm

I have just introduced a new product online, I have a good start. I am so glad I found your blog, I have read alot of business books. They don’t compare to hearing information from someone who is currently doing it.

I actually found your site while searching for a shipping agent for my product. Right now I am interested in an area in which I haven’t seen a post yet.

I would like to hear how you physically set up your work space. I would like to continue to keep my business out of my home even if it grows. I would also like to understand how your shipping flow is set up. Right now, I have a few orders per week so it is manageable. I just wanted to get an idea of how i should deal with this as sales volume grows.

By the way, I think all of your posts are very insightful I am glad to read any advice you have. Marketing and boosting sales of online store are where I am at right now.

I’d love to see more how to guides with respect to building an online store, the nitty gritty stuff is always fascinating to me. I’d also like to hear more about specific problems and issues you have had (or are having), and how you overcome them – personal stories are always great! Thanks!

  30. W^L+ (Walt Hucks)on 18 Mar 2010 at 10:31 pm

I’m not interested in any phone on the AT&T network, but I’d say I like all of the above.

Also, time management with a job, family, and business: I find it extremely difficult to get any work done at home. I get more work done when I’m on an assignment and working 70 hours per week than I do at home between assignments.

And ways you (plan to) teach your children to take control of their own lives. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has had a young relative say “I can’t work for you because you’ll make me work, but I am looking for a job.”

  31. Kimon 18 Mar 2010 at 11:02 pm

( Personal stories about obstacles we face running our business) I like the obstacles and lessons you’ve learned. I too own a business and always looking for ways to improve and when your stories relate to success and failures, we can all pick some pointers. When it’s more general, a lot of readers can benefit. If your stories are too specific to a particular topic like “how to build online business” it may not apply to a lot of readers. Good luck in business this year..it’s the year of the strong Tiger!!!

  32. Lana-Daring Clarityon 18 Mar 2010 at 11:59 pm

awesome contest, Steve! As a personal development blogger, I, of course love motivational articales and I also love reading your personal stories about the obstacles you face.
Lots of luck to you with your business and please continue insiring us!

  33. Danielon 19 Mar 2010 at 3:30 am

I won’t be able to win this contest as I’m based in another part of the world. lol.

However, I could chip in with the suggested topics that I find you’ll have a blast writing them. :)

    - Personal stories about obstacles we face running our business

    - Motivational articles focusing on entrepreneurship

Chose the 1st as it’s one of the hardest things to write *grins* — it is actually going to be difficult revealing too much of our own personal obstacles in running businesses; while the 2nd was selected as it’s actually one of my favorite topics when reading this blog. :)

All the best to the winner here. Cheers!

You have built one of the best websites I have come across in a long time. Not only is it easy to find more good info, but it is refreshing, personal, easy to read, has great stories… I could spend hours reading on your site and do spend more time than I have!
I still have so much to read and to learn from you…
One thing I think you could do better than a lot of other people online is to talk about starting a website… website vs blog, how to choose layouts, hosts, all those things… comparing and contrasting how you go to where you did.
I love everyone else’s ideas as well. Whatever you write will be helpful! Thank you also for maintaining ‘the human touch’… you are one of the few people (I have seen) who effectively and personally respond to comments, questions, etc… it is really impressive.
Thank you for what you have done so far!
    So impressive and helpful!

I absolutely love your insight about running your own online business.
Right now my husband runs his own small business, and in the future I hope to start up some sort of online venture to supplement our incomes further.

The two areas I would love to hear more about are:

Personal stories about obstacles we face running our business
    Ecommerce strategies to boost sales

Just so you know, I am soaking in every little bit of wisdom you share!
    Thanks!!

    Hi Steven,

I just started my online store last November. The site is up, but I have not try Google Adwords, all I am doing is using Facebook and Twitter… And the traffic is really really slow…

And the shopping cart I use is Magento, but I am somewhat regret from using Magento, but it is more meant for Programmer or someone with a lot of programming skill. Every time I have issue with the shopping cart, I have to ask a programmer friend to fix the issue…

Anyways, here are the three topics that I would like hear more from you.

    # Ecommerce strategies to boost sales
    # How to increase productivity
    # Marketing an online store

    Thank you

    Great giveaway!

I’d like to learn more about items regarding online stores.
#How to guides with respect to building an online store
Will this be more of technical or more of a strategic guide? The latter would be more useful.
    #Marketing an online store
Specific examples of what has worked at various stages would be useful, especially for start-up to marketing once a store reaches various revenue points. Has this changed in recent years?

    Hey Steve,

    Your blog is a favorite!

What I appreciate is your transparency—your willingness to share about your successes and your failures.

The two subjects I would love to see you continue to write and share about are:

    1. Personal stories about obstacles you and your wife face running your business
    2. Balancing raising kids, running an online business, and building an awesome marriage. Simply put, time management.

    Keep rocking it!

    -Josh

While I don’t have an online store, I have enjoyed reading your blog for some time already. I prefer how-to articles as I am technically challenged and need step-by-step and easy to follow instructions. I also appreciate research done on online stores. Thanks!
