Everything written are really good reasons to give up the job. I was recently put on short term disability (that just got extended) and its imperative for me to try to make it on my own (without a day-job). Who knows if I wont be able to go back to work or if I would even have a job when I return? Everything is so unstable now, you really have to make your own way.

Love it! I'd love to just make even half of my current salary through online work - I'm getting there, though! Great to see what is possible. Reminds me of Kiyosaki's comment once - never work for money. Working to learn is ok - and that's just what you did, too.

Nice article.

I have literally just done EXACTLY the same. £100k job, last 2 years working on the side with my on-line business. Gave the £100k job up, now full time on-line and I LOVE IT!

Working hard but the freedom is beautiful...

I should actually write a part two of this post. I spoke with my replacement sales person at the company and it looks like the recession have hit my company pretty badly. My biggest customer who made up 20% of my sales haven't ordered anything in the first four months of the year.

So this means that if I stayed at my job, my salary would've tumbled because I don't think getting new customers are that easy during the last several months either. Sometimes, perceived risk won't be as you thought it would be.
